The long colonnaded street of Perge

In the Footsteps of Saint Paul

The Book of Acts reads like a travel diary of southern Turkey. This private St Paul tour follows the apostle from the coast at Perge, up into the hills of Pisidia, across the plains of Iconium and on to Tarsus, the city of his birth, bringing the journeys of the first missionaries to life in the landscapes they walked.

Day by day

Your itinerary

  1. Day1

Antalya and the early Christian world

Your private guide and driver meet you in Antalya. Depending on your arrival, explore the old town and its Roman harbour while your guide sketches the map of Paul's world: the provinces, the roads and the ports that carried the first Christian message.

    Overnight in Antalya

  2. Day2

Perge: the journey through Pamphylia begins

"From Paphos, Paul and his companions sailed to Perga in Pamphylia," says Acts. Walk through Perge's monumental gates and along its colonnaded street, past the agora, baths and stadium, as your guide connects the biblical account with the city around you.

    Overnight in Antalya

  3. Day3

Pisidian Antioch: the sermon in the synagogue

Head inland into the lake country to Pisidian Antioch, near Yalvaç. It was here, Acts tells us, that Paul stood up in the synagogue and gave his first recorded sermon. Explore the city's paved streets, its church remains and the site of the Augustus temple.

    Overnight in Yalvaç or Eğirdir

  4. Day4

Iconium and the lands of Lycaonia

Cross the high plains to Konya, the Iconium of Acts, where Paul and Barnabas preached and were forced to flee to Lystra and Derbe. Visit some of the city's historic sites and hear the stories of these first churches of the Anatolian interior.

    Overnight in Konya

  5. Day5

Tarsus: the home town of Saint Paul

"I am a Jew of Tarsus in Cilicia, a citizen of no mean city." Descend through the Taurus Mountains to Paul's birthplace. Draw water from St Paul's Well, walk the old quarter and a stretch of Roman road, and visit the historic St Paul's Church, subject to access arrangements.

    Overnight in Tarsus or Adana

  6. Day6

    Departure

A private transfer to Adana Airport. If you have more time, the journey can continue to Antakya, ancient Antioch, where the followers of Jesus were first called Christians.
