High in the cliff across the river, temple-like tombs with columns and pediments were carved for the rulers of Kaunos in the 4th century BC, a Carian city that borrowed the Lycian way of honouring its dead. They are best seen from a boat, or from the waterfront at sunset, when the rock glows gold. A riverside view takes 20 to 40 minutes.
